Southampton Business Against Crime (SoBAC)
Every year in the UK, it is estimated that shoplifting costs retailers over £4bn.
According to research, up to a third of the thefts are carried out by shop staff and many are carried out by well organised gangs who target retail outlets in coordinated teams.
To assist in the fight against these criminals Business Against Crime Services schemes connect retailers through a single Integrated Radio & Camera Control Solution.
The Business Against Crime Services scheme allows all retailers, pubs, CCTV operators and Police on the scheme access to the same radio channel in order to communicate quickly and effectively with each other, helping to identify and stop criminals in their tracks.
The client:
Southampton Business Against Crime (SoBAC)
The brief:
SoBAC, a non-profit making partnership set up by like-minded businesses who want to control business crime in the city, aims to help prevent crime and make Southampton a safer place to work and shop.
The firm required a digital radio system, under a five year contract agreement, to support more than 100 Southampton businesses in the area.
The solution:
Fore Comms has supplied a total of 160 Motorola two-way radios, 150 DP4400 and 10 DP4800 handsets, which are linked to each other and to the SoBAC security office via a central computer so they can communicate efficiently and alert each other instantly about antisocial behaviour.
The hand-held radios are connected together and managed through a Motorola digital infrastructure which consists of two repeaters and directional antennas that boost the radio signal coverage across Southampton.
The DP4400 portable radio delivers voice and data communications. It is easy to use and features up to 32 channel capacity, five programmable buttons and an emergency button. The emergency button can be programmed to send an alert to another user during a crisis situation.
The DP4800 handset features a full colour display with day/night mode to make text messages easier, keypad, up to 1,000 channel capacity, five programmable buttons and an emergency button.
Both models of handset incorporate an intelligent audio feature that automatically adjusts the radio volume according the environment’s noise level. Integrated GPS enables location tracking of radio users and text messaging can be used when voice communication is not appropriate.
The result:
The equipment supplied by Fore Comms enables Southampton businesses to communicate quickly with each other, the police and CCTV control rooms about antisocial behaviour, ultimately making Southampton a safer place.
